Matches I have watched

I have seen some matches live in MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai...

India-West Indies test match - This was the famous match when Gavaskar didnt open. But, he came in to bat when India was 0 for 2!!! He then went on to score 236 not out - for long the highest score for India till Laxman beat it during his 281 against Australia. I remember seeing the first 2 wickets to fall (Gaekwad and Vengsarkar), both caught in slips of the bowling of Marshall. The balls were hardly visible to the naked eye. Still the mind shudders to think of the speed of the bowling. This was preceded by some big hitting by Holding (of the bowling of Maninder). He smashed the left-arm spinner for 3-4 sixes before the innings ended.

India-Pakistan test match where Javed Miandad played under Imran - watched the 1st day of the match. Javed hit a six of Maninder. India started playing, I think, only after lunch/tea on 2nd day and Srikkanth scored his century.

Another India-WestIndies match in Chennai - Hirwani test, this time. Ravi Shastri was captaining India for the first time, due to injury to Vengsarkar. Hirwani took 16 wickets in this, his debut test match. If I remember, there were 3 debutants for India - Hirwani, Raman, Ajay Sharma.

In Bangalore, watched a Ranji match between Karnataka and MP in the Chinnaswamy stadium.

Watched a match between Asia XI and World XI in Leeds, UK.
